PADANG TERAP( DAY 3 - VECTOR BORNE DISEASES)

DAY 3( 2nd February 2010)
Venue : Dewan Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Padang Terap

Vector Control Unit by Encik Mohd. Zin (Penolong Pegawai Kesihatan Daerah Kanan)


Objective

To reduce morbidity and mortality rate of vector borne diseases in Padang Terap district

Specific Objectives for Dengue fever


  • To reduce morbidity an mortality rate of Dengue fever and Dengue Hemorrhagic fever


  • To reduce incidence of Dengue fever of not more than 16/100000 population

Specific Objectives for Malaria


  1. To reduce morbidity and mortality rate of Dengue fever

  2. To prevent Malaria to occur in Malaria free zone

  3. To ensure the incidence rate of Malaria does not exceed 1/10000 population

Control of Vector Borne Diseases:

  • Briefing by PPKP Encik Mohd Zin

  • He explained the organizational chart of the vector control unit and its role

  • Our main focus was the recent outbreak of Chikungunya.
We then showed how fogging is done. How the equpiment works and its various types; oil based and water based, and the chemical used. The chemical usually used are Resgen (oil based), Pestgard, Sulfithion, Bactoback(most expensive and the nicest smelling like milo)

As for Larvacide chemical used specific for malaria is Kotrin, non-specific are Ebit 500E

Malaria

It is transmitted by a female Anopheles mosquito. There are no specific seasons for Malaria and no specific areas


Places where the mosquito may breed in Kg Felda Lubuk Merbau


The suspected larvae is taken up with a pippet and transfer into a vial


Vial is then labeled and seal


Larvaecide sprayed around the compound and sachet of larvaecide provided to the house owner...

  4. nice... nt only zin gv us briefing... en.ismail oso gv us a lot of explaination n his experience for d past 20 plus years since he started his work in health ministry...
    he oso told us how to b more careful whn conducting job whn u r on d field... his lesson is that he lost his right thumb...
