Padang Terap District( DAY 1 - INTRO &KPAS )


DAY 1 (31st January 2010)

Venue : Bilik Mesyuarat, Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah(PKD)Padang Terap

All 13 of us gathered at the Bilik Mesyuarat,PKD Padang Terap at 8am. We were welcomed by the Pegawai Kesihatan Daerah, Dr.Ishak bin Haji Hussein. He briefed us about the organizational chart of the PKD and also the structure, functions and duties of each staff in the public health. About an hour later, we were exposed to the world of public health ; what is it? its inportance and etc. It was very informative!

About 10.50 a.m, we had a talk on Kesihatan Pekerjaan& Alam Sekitar(KPAS) which simply means Occupational Health by PPKP Muhd.Hazran. KPAS basically handles needle prick injury cases. They hold activities like preparing courses, supplying gloves and respirators, annual audiometry, fogging and protective clothing.

Vision

Towards creating a safe and healthy working environment for the staffs of MOH in Padang Terap district as well as for the customers through health promotion.

Mission

To create a conducive working environment by identifying hazards and taking measures to manage them

Objectives

  1. To maintain a healthy and safe working environment
  2. To increase the level of knowledge and awareness about ocupational health and safety among health workers
  3. To increase the quality and productvity
  4. To provide to the staffs
  5. To promote occupational health and safety
  6. Notification and surveillance of occupational diseases

Activities carried out by KPAS are:

  • Notification and surveillance of occupational diseases
  • Health and Safety promotion
  • Conduct workshops,training,and courses for staffs regarding occupational health
  • Monitor and conduct 'healthy setting'activities
  • Conduct sanitary assessment of school and institutes

Besides that, they are also involved in hazard control which can be classified into 5 easy steps as follow:

  • Penghapusan
  • Penggantian
  • Kawalan Kejuruteraan
  • Kawalan Kejuruteraan
  • Personal Protective Equipment


visit to Klinik Desa Nako Nambua

Later in the afternoon, all of us gathered at 2.45pm at the PKD once again before we headed towards Klinik Desa Nako Nambua. It was about half an hour drive to this Klinik Desa. We were welcomed by the Jururawat Masyarakat. We were briefed about the facilities in the clinic. Then, 4 of us took charge in assessing the facilities in this clinic by filling up audit andf hazard forms. All of us were exposed to 'cold chain' concept ; various vaccines available at this place,ways to record temperature of vaccines,storage suitable for certain vaccines. Overall the facilities are in good condition.
